Racemic packing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009797
A crystal packing of a chiral polymer in which chain stems of opposite helical sense, left-handed and right-handed, occur side by side in equal numbers within the same lattice. It covers chains that are chiral themselves or that take on a helical conformation in the crystal. The polylactide stereocomplex, where poly(L-lactide) and poly(D-lactide) chains pack together, is a standard example.
