Racemization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009798
The process by which a pure enantiomer or an enantiomerically enriched mixture is converted into a racemate, a mixture containing equal amounts of both enantiomers. This transformation results in the loss of optical activity. Racemization can occur through several mechanisms, including enolization, epimerization, or the formation of a planar intermediate.
