Relative instrument spectral response function

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010145

A ratio that compares how a spectrometer responds across the energy or mass scale with how a reference instrument responds, or with the mean response of several instruments. It is used in Auger and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy as a function of electron energy, and in secondary ion mass spectrometry as a function of mass. The underlying response function combines analyzer transmission with detector sensitivity, and a ratio of 1 means the two instruments behave alike.
