Double-beam spectrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013049
An instrument that splits a beam of electromagnetic radiation into two separate paths, a sample beam and a reference beam, before they reach the detector. The sample beam passes through the analyte, while the reference beam passes through a blank or reference material. The instrument electronically compares the intensities of the two beams, which automatically corrects for fluctuations in source intensity and detector response over time.
