Single-beam spectrometer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010893

An optical instrument that directs a single beam of radiation through a sample to measure its absorbance or transmittance. The intensity of the transmitted light is compared to a separate measurement of the incident light intensity, often obtained from a blank or reference. This design is simpler than a double-beam spectrometer but requires careful background correction.
