Double-focusing mass spectrograph
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003410
An instrument that combines an electric sector and a magnetic sector so that ions diverging in direction and spread in kinetic energy are brought to a focus, dispersed by mass-to-charge ratio, and recorded together on a photographic plate or film rather than detected electrically. The Mattauch-Herzog design places the whole mass range along one focal plane, which suited the spark-source analysis of trace elements.
