Unit mass resolution

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012438

A characteristic of a mass spectrometer indicating its ability to distinguish between ions that differ in mass-to-charge ratio by one atomic mass unit (amu) across the entire mass range. This means that peaks separated by one amu are clearly resolved from each other. Instruments like quadrupole mass spectrometers often achieve unit mass resolution, which is sufficient for many analytical applications.
