Retardation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010281
A decrease in the overall rate of polymerization due to the presence of species that react with propagating radicals to form less reactive or non-propagating species. This effect is distinct from inhibition, where polymerization is completely stopped. Retardation can be caused by impurities or intentionally added agents, and it results in a slower increase in polymer chain length over time.
