Retardation

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004814

The delay or slowing down of a signal or wave as it propagates through a medium. This effect is caused by the interaction of the wave with the material properties of the medium, such as its refractive index or permittivity. In optical fibers, chromatic dispersion is a form of retardation where different wavelengths travel at different speeds.
