Retaining valve
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004813
A type of check valve designed to maintain a minimum pressure in a system or prevent complete drainage. It allows fluid to flow in one direction but restricts or prevents flow in the reverse direction until a certain pressure differential is met. Retaining valves are often used in braking systems to keep brake shoes close to the drums or in hydraulic circuits to prevent cavitation.
