Throttle valve

A mechanical device that regulates the flow of a fluid or gas by varying the cross-sectional area of the passage through which it flows. In internal combustion engines, it controls the amount of air entering the engine, thereby regulating engine power and speed. Throttle valves are also used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems to manage flow rates and pressure.
