Restump

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004812

To replace the supporting stumps or piers under a building, a process also known as reblocking. This work is required when the original stumps, which are often timber, have rotted, been damaged by termites, or have settled into the soil, causing uneven floors and structural problems. Workers jack up sections of the building, remove the old stumps, and install new ones made of concrete, steel, or treated timber to level the structure; the spacing and footing requirements for new stumps are specified in local building codes.
