Roof-plate

A horizontal timber or steel member that forms part of the roof structure, typically supporting the lower ends of rafters or trusses. It distributes the roof load to the walls or other supporting elements of the building. This component is also known as a wall plate or top plate when it sits directly on top of a wall.
