Valley rafter
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006408
A structural timber member that runs diagonally from the wall plate to the ridge, forming the internal angle where two roof slopes meet. This rafter supports the common rafters that terminate at the valley, carrying their load down to the building's structure. It is typically larger in cross-section than common rafters due to the increased load it bears.
