Ridge beam

A horizontal structural member located at the apex of a roof, supporting the upper ends of the rafters. It carries the vertical loads from the roof down to the supporting walls or columns. This beam is a primary element in roof framing, especially in structures where the rafters do not meet at a self-supporting angle.
