Raising plate

A horizontal timber or beam that sits on top of a wall or foundation, providing a continuous bearing surface for the ends of roof rafters or floor joists. It distributes the weight of the roof or floor structure evenly across the supporting wall. This element is also known as a wall plate or top plate.
