Strongback

A heavy beam or timber used to reinforce or stiffen other structural members, such as floor joists or rafters, over a long span. It distributes loads more evenly and reduces deflection, enhancing the overall rigidity of a floor or roof system. Strongbacks are often installed perpendicular to the members they support.
