Joistwork

The system of parallel, horizontal beams, called joists, that are installed to support a floor or ceiling. This framework transfers the load from the floor or ceiling surface to the main beams, girders, or load-bearing walls of a structure. Joistwork is constructed from timber, engineered wood products, or steel, with spacing and dimensions determined by building codes based on span length and anticipated loads.
