Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003049
Relating to the space or cavity between two adjacent joists in a floor or ceiling frame. This area is filled with insulation, used as a channel for running wiring or plumbing, or fitted with blocking to add structural rigidity. The standard on-center spacing for joists, such as 16 or 24 inches, determines the width of the interjoist bay, which dictates the size of materials installed within it.
