Interlace
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003050
To display a video image by drawing its odd-numbered lines first, followed by its even-numbered lines, creating two separate fields that combine to form a single frame. This technique was developed for analog television to reduce perceived flicker and conserve bandwidth while maintaining vertical resolution. A standard NTSC signal, for example, displays 60 interlaced fields per second to produce 30 frames per second.
