Composite video, blanking, and sync

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001281

A single analog signal, abbreviated CVBS, that combines the video information (luma and chrominance), horizontal blanking intervals, and vertical synchronization pulses required to display a picture on a standard-definition television or monitor. The blanking intervals are periods of zero brightness that allow the electron beam in a CRT display to return to the start of the next line or frame. This signal is transmitted over a single coaxial cable, typically with an RCA or BNC connector, and is distinct from component video, which separates the signals.
