Subsignal

A component of a larger, composite electrical signal that carries specific information or a particular characteristic. This smaller signal is modulated onto a carrier wave or combined with other signals to form the complete transmission. In television broadcasting, for instance, color information is carried as a subsignal within the main video signal.
