Envelope

The outline or shape of the instantaneous amplitude of a modulated signal, representing the variations in the carrier wave's amplitude over time. It carries the information content in amplitude modulation (AM) schemes. The envelope detector circuit is commonly used to extract the original modulating signal from an AM wave.
