Work envelope

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006648

The three-dimensional space within which a robotic manipulator can move its end-effector. This volume is defined by the robot's physical geometry, including the lengths of its links and the range of motion of its joints. The shape of the work envelope is determined by the robot's configuration, such as Cartesian, cylindrical, or articulated, with a SCARA robot having a kidney-shaped work envelope in the horizontal plane.
