Monoscope

A specialized type of cathode ray tube that generates a fixed video signal from a built-in pattern printed on an internal electrode. Instead of displaying an external signal, it functions as a character or test pattern generator by scanning this internal target with an electron beam. Monoscopes were used in early electronic equipment and television broadcasting systems to produce stable, high-quality reference images and text.
