Nixie tube

A cold-cathode gas-discharge device for displaying numerals or other symbols, representing an early form of digital display. It consists of a sealed glass envelope containing a wire-mesh anode and multiple cathodes shaped like the characters to be displayed. Applying a high voltage of around 170 volts DC to a specific cathode causes it to glow with a distinct orange light, making that character visible.
