Charactron

A specialized cathode ray tube (CRT) designed to display alphanumeric characters and symbols rather than raster graphics. It uses a shaped electron beam passed through a stencil-like mask containing character patterns, which are then projected onto the screen. This technology was employed in early computer terminals and radar displays for rapid text output.
