Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001471
A vacuum tube that contains one or more electron guns and a fluorescent screen used to display images. Electrons emitted by the gun are accelerated and deflected by electric or magnetic fields to strike the screen, causing it to glow. Cathode ray tubes were the primary display technology for televisions and computer monitors for many decades before being largely replaced by flat-panel displays.
