Cathode

The electrode in an electrochemical cell or electronic vacuum tube from which electrons exit or into which conventional current flows. In a galvanic cell, it is the positive terminal, while in an electrolytic cell, it is the negative terminal where reduction occurs. Cathodes are fundamental components in devices such as batteries, diodes, and cathode ray tubes.
