Cathode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001739
The electrode in an electrochemical cell where reduction occurs. In a galvanic cell, it is the positive terminal, while in an electrolytic cell, it is the negative terminal. Electrons flow into the cathode from the external circuit, facilitating the gain of electrons by species in solution or at the electrode surface.
