Cold cathode
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001223
An electrode in a vacuum tube or gas-discharge lamp that emits electrons without requiring heating. Electron emission occurs primarily through field emission or secondary emission caused by ion bombardment, rather than thermionic emission. This type of cathode is found in neon lamps, fluorescent lamps, and some types of vacuum tubes, offering longer lifespan and lower power consumption for certain applications.
