Storage tube

A vacuum tube that retains an image or data for an extended period, often used in early computer displays and oscilloscopes. It stores information as a charge pattern on a dielectric surface, which can then be read out or displayed. This technology allowed for flicker-free displays before the advent of refresh memory.
