Star plate
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005618
A star-shaped metal anchor plate fixed to the outside face of a masonry wall at the end of a tie rod, spreading the rod's pull over a wider area of masonry. Tie rods run through a building to hold opposite walls together or to secure walls to the floor structure, and the plates are visible on many older brick and stone buildings. Wall anchors of other shapes, such as round plates and S-shaped irons, serve the same function.
