Retarder

A device used in heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses, to supplement the primary braking system by providing additional braking force without using friction brakes. It works by converting kinetic energy into heat, often through electromagnetic or hydraulic means. This reduces wear on the service brakes, particularly during long descents.
