Track brake
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006101
A braking system used on railway vehicles that applies braking force directly to the railhead, independent of wheel-rail adhesion. It typically consists of an electromagnet or permanent magnet suspended close to the rail, which, when activated, creates a magnetic force that generates friction. Track brakes provide additional braking power, especially in emergency situations or on steep gradients.
