Brake fade
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000736
A reduction in braking effectiveness caused by excessive heat buildup in the braking system, typically affecting the brake pads and rotors. High temperatures can cause the friction material to outgas, forming a layer of gas that reduces the coefficient of friction, or lead to a temporary loss of friction material integrity. This phenomenon results in a longer stopping distance and requires greater pedal effort.
