Brake check

The act of a driver deliberately and abruptly applying the brakes in front of a following vehicle, with the intent to cause the other driver to brake sharply or swerve. This aggressive driving maneuver is performed to express anger, retaliate, or deter tailgating. A brake check is considered reckless driving in many jurisdictions and can lead to traffic citations, fines, and liability for any resulting collision.
