Clasp brake

A braking system used on railway rolling stock, consisting of two brake blocks that simultaneously press against opposite sides of the wheel tread. This design distributes the braking force evenly and reduces stress on the wheel. Clasp brakes are common on freight cars and older passenger coaches.
