Track
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006100
The lateral distance between the centerlines of the wheels on the same axle of a vehicle. A wider track increases stability and cornering grip by lowering the center of gravity and reducing lateral load transfer, while a narrower track improves maneuverability in tight spaces. The front and rear track measurements are often different to balance handling characteristics, with the front track sometimes being wider to reduce understeer.
