Track circuit
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006102
An electrical circuit formed by the rails of a railway track, used to detect the presence of a train or railcar. When a train occupies a section of track, its wheels and axles shunt the circuit, changing its electrical properties. This change signals track occupancy to the interlocking system, preventing conflicting movements.
