Block signal
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000621
A fixed signal at the entrance to a section of track, known as a block, that communicates track occupancy status to train operators. It governs the movement of trains by displaying aspects like red for stop, yellow for caution, or green for proceed, based on whether the block ahead is clear or occupied. In automatic block signaling systems, the signals are controlled by track circuits that detect the presence of a train, changing aspects automatically without direct dispatcher intervention.
