Block instrument

An electromechanical device used in railway signaling to manage and indicate the occupancy status of a section of track, known as a block section. A pair of instruments, one at each end of the block, are electrically connected to prevent a second train from entering an occupied section. The state of the block is shown by a visual indicator, such as a needle pointing to 'Line Clear' or 'Train on Line'.
