Signalling
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005280
The system of visual indicators, track circuits, and control centers used to direct train movements safely and maintain separation between them. Signals convey instructions to drivers about the state of the track ahead, including speed limits and whether to proceed or stop. Modern systems use color light signals controlled by block systems, which divide the track into sections that only one train may occupy at a time.
