Track
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012192
A region of localized damage created within a solid dielectric material by the passage of a single, energetic, ionizing particle. This path of altered material is not initially visible but can be revealed through a process of preferential chemical etching, which enlarges the damage trail into a microscopic channel or pit. The number of tracks per unit area in a track detector is proportional to the fluence of the incident particles.
