Altered layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000450
A region near the surface of a solid material that has undergone changes in its chemical composition or physical structure due to external influences. These changes can result from processes such as ion bombardment, chemical reactions, or environmental exposure. The altered layer often exhibits different properties compared to the bulk material, affecting surface analysis techniques.
