Describing a wheel, axle, or vehicle equipped with a mechanism for slowing or stopping its motion. The braking system converts kinetic energy into another form of energy, usually heat, through friction. Braked trailers, for example, have their own braking systems that activate in coordination with the towing vehicle, as opposed to unbraked trailers that rely solely on the tow vehicle's brakes.
