Slip coach

A railway carriage designed to be detached from a moving train at an intermediate station without the train stopping. The coach is uncoupled while in motion and then braked to a halt at the platform. This method was once employed to avoid delays for the main train, particularly on express services, and required a dedicated guard on board the slip coach.
