Slip
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005367
The difference between the synchronous speed of a rotating magnetic field and the actual rotor speed in an induction motor, expressed as a percentage of synchronous speed. This difference is necessary to induce current in the rotor windings and produce torque. A typical induction motor operates with a slip of 2% to 5% at full load.
