Induction motor
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003010
An alternating current (AC) electric motor where the stator's magnetic field creates an electric current in the rotor through electromagnetic induction, producing torque. The rotating magnetic field of the stator windings induces a current in the rotor conductors, which in turn generates a magnetic field that interacts with the stator's field to cause rotation. The rotor always turns at a slightly slower speed than the stator's magnetic field, a difference known as slip.
