Field coil
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002246
A wound wire coil that generates a magnetic field when an electric current passes through it. This magnetic field interacts with an armature or rotor to produce mechanical motion in motors or generate electricity in generators. Field coils are found in both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) machines, with their design varying based on the required magnetic flux density.
